unspecified: Is bigger always better ?
August 28, 2013

Yes, ladies it’s okay to admit that we all want a big diamond on our finger to show off. Unfortunately bigger isn’t always better. The bigger the stone, the more chance for inclusion and imperfections. These imperfections can dull the diamonds and make it look lifeless when compared to a flawless diamond. Would you rather have a smaller diamond full of life, or a big dull diamond? I’d want the smaller stone. Remember to take clarity into consideration when purchasing diamonds.

The clarity grade is based upon the number of inclusions or blemishes a diamond has. The most desirable diamond is flawless of imperfections, and therefore is much higher in price.

The clarity scale ranges from FL-I3. FL being the best and I3 not so much.

Fl and IF make-up diamonds that are flawless or almost flawless. VVS1 and VVS2 (Very, very slightly included) contain very, very small microscopic inclusions that are extremely difficult to see under 10x magnification. VS1 and VS2 (very slightly included) contain very small microscopic inclusions difficult to see under 10x magnification. SI1 and SI2 (slightly included) have small inclusions that are visible under 10x magnification. Depending on their location within the diamond, they may be visible without magnification. I1, I2 and I3 (included) have inclusions that are obvious to the unaided eye.

Happy shopping !
